The central bacteriorhodopsin domain with 7 TMSs is linked via an additional TMS to the C-terminal adenylate/guanylate cyclase catalytic domain. CyclOp enables precise and rapid optogenetic manipulation of cGMP levels in cells and animals (Gao et al. 2015).
