9.A.59 The Bacteriocin: Enterocin/Pediocin (BEP) Family

These small bacteriocins exhibit antimicrobial activity and some (ENtA and ENtB) exhibit synergism. They are cytolytic and may form pores in the membranes of target bacteria. Both Gram-positive bacteria and some Gram-negative bacteria are killed (Cintas et al., 1998; Martín-Platero et al., 2006; 2008).
