The system has low affinity for D-xylose and almost no affinity for D-glucose. It has use for bioengineering purposes (Havukainen et al. 2021). Due to its high affinity for L-arabinose and low inhibition by D-glucose
or D-xylose, Trire2_104072 (AraE) could serve as a good candidate for
improving existing pentose-utilizing yeast strains.
