2.A.1.2.123 Fluconazole resistance protein 1, Flu1 of 610 aas and 12 TMSs. It mediates resistance to structurally and functionally unrelated compounds
including cycloheximide but also azoles such as fuconazole,
ketoconazole and itraconazole (Calabrese et al. 2000). It mediates efflux of histatin 5, a salivary human antimicrobial peptide, and
is responsible for reduction of its toxicity in C.albicans (Li et al. 2013, Hampe et al. 2017). Mutations in the Erg251 ergosterol biosynthetic enzyme can also give rise to azole resistance (Zhou et al. 2024). Batzelladine D, a marine natural product, reverses the fluconazole resistance phenotype mediated by transmembrane transporters in Candida albicans. It also interferes with biofilm formation (Domingos et al. 2024).
