membrane potential stabilization, signal transduction and
transepithelial transport. It may also be important in urinary concentrating
mechanisms (Estévez et al. 2001). Inactivated variants in the CLCNKB gene, encoding the basolateral chloride
channel ClC-Kb cause classic Bartter syndrome, characterized by
hypokalemic metabolic alkalosis and hyperreninemic hyperaldosteronism (Wang et al. 2018).
