9.B.236.  The Unculturable Bacterial Uncharacterized 5 TMS Protein-1 (UBUP1) Family

This family of proteins is found only in unculturable bacteria but not in any of the well characterized bacteria.  The proteins are all small (~150 - 180 aas and have 5 TMSs in a 2 + 2 + 1 arrangement.  The function is not know. However they may be very distantly related to MgtC family members (TC# 9.B.20) as well as Mg2+ channels (TC# 1.A.77), suggesting a potential role in magnesium transport.
