9.B.396. The Uncharacterized Prokaryotic Membrane Protein-2 (UPMP2) Family

UPMP2 family proteins vary in size and topology.  Some are about 230 aas with 6 TMSs; others are larger (~1000 aas with 7 N-terminal TMSs and a large C-terminal hydrophilic domain, and others are about 740 aas with 12 or 13 TMSs. These last mentioned proteins have the first 6 TMSs that belong to family 9.B.396, and the last 7 TMSs are homologous to members of the MFS (2.A.1).

Examples:

TC#NameOrganismal TypeExample
9.B.396.1.1

Uncharacterized protein of 235 aas and 6 TMSs in a 1 + 2 + 2 + 1 TMS arrangement.

UP of Ornithinimicrobium cerasi

9.B.396.1.2

Uncharacterized protein of 740 aas and 13 TMSs in a 6 + 7 TMS arrangement.  The last domain includes 6 TMSs that are homologous to the repeat unit in MFS porters.  However, the first 6 TMSs are characteristic of family 9.B.396.
