9.B.425.  The Uncharacterized 12 TMS Transmembrane Protein (U12TP) Family

The protein members of this family are derived from a diversity of bacteria. One of them (TC# 9.B.425.1.1) has about 900 aas and 11 or 12 TMSs in its N-terminal half with a large (~400 hydrophilic C-terminal domain. It may belong to the DUF998 domain-containing protein family. Another member of the family (TC# 9.B.425.1.2) has just the hydrophobic domain. Some bacteria have a ~300 aa residue protein that corresponds to the last 300 residues of 9.B.425.1.1 and may have one TMS.

Examples:

TC#NameOrganismal TypeExample
9.B.425.1.1

Uncharacterized protein of 941 aas and 11 or 12 TMSs in a 1 + 4 or 5 +1 + 2 or 3 + 2 TMS arrangement in its N-terminal 500 aas followed by a large (~400aa) hydrophilic domain.

9.B.425.1.2

Uncharacterized protein of 632 aas, having the full hydrophobic domain of 9.B.425.1.1 but lacking the C-terminal hydrophilic domain. It probably has 12 TMSs in a 2 + 1 + 5 + 2 + 2 TMS arrangement.
