9.B.438. The Trans Membrane Protein TMEM218 (TMEM218) Family
Most members of the TMEM218 (TM218) Family are small proteins of about 100 - 150 aas with 3 TMSs in a 2 + 1 TMS arrangement. Some are larger with or without more TMSs. They may be involved in ciliary biogenesis or function in eukaryotes. They are primarily found in metazoa, but some are found in Chlorophyta (Viridiplantae).
TMEM218 (TM218) of 115 aas and 3 TMSs in a 2 + 1 TMS arrangement.
TMEM218 of Homo sapiens
Uncharacterized protein, TMEM218, of 165 aas and 3 TMSs in a 2 + 1 TMS arrangement.
UP of Blattella germanica (German cockroach)
Uncharacterized TMEM218 protein of 125 aas and 3 TMSs in a 2 + 1 TMS arrangement.
UP of Trichonephila inaurata madagascariensis (Nephila madagascariensis)
TMEM218 of 141 aas and 3 TMSs in a 2 + 1 TMS arrangement.
TMEM218 of Lagopus leucura (white-tailed ptarmigan)

UP of Chlamydomonas schloesseri
Uncharacterized protein of 522 aas and up to 6 TMSs in a 2 + 2 + 2 TMS arrangement, where the first 4 TMSs are stronly hydrophilic and the last two potential TMSs are weakly hydrophobic. This region is at the N-terminus of the protein. The region showing sequence similarity with other TM218 homologs is TMSs 1 - 105.
UP of Dimorphilus gyrociliatus
Uncharacterized protein of 393 aas with up to 4 TMSs in a possible 1 + 2 + 1 TMS arrangement, where the last 3 TMSs are homologous to members of the TMEM218 Family. The first TMS occurs at about residue 245.
UP of Gonioctena quinquepunctata
Uncharacterized protein of 158 aas and 3 TMSs in a 2 + 1 TMS arrangement.
UP of Volvox reticuliferus
