Mutation can cause a familial form of hypertrophic cardiomyopathy (HCM) and therefore could be a target for the treatment of cardiac hypertrophy and dysfunction (Okamoto et al. 2020). Cx30 and Cx26 hemichannels display similar permeabilities to ATP, but Cx26 gap junctions are six times more permeable than their hemichannels and four times more permeable than Cx30 gap junctions (Xu and Nicholson 2023).
