4.C.1.1.21 Long-chain-fatty-acid--CoA ligase 4, ACSL4, of 711 aas and 1 N-terminal TMS. It catalyzes the conversion of long-chain fatty acids to their active form ,
acyl-CoA, for both synthesis of cellular lipids, and degradation via
beta-oxidation. It is one of six newly discovered exo- proteins (ACSL4, IGSF8, ITGA2, ITGA5, ITGB3, MYOF) that may serve as lineage specific extracellular vesicle-associated protein biomarkers for the early detection of high grade serous ovarian cancer (Trinidad et al. 2023; Ohkuni et al. 2013). It preferentially activates arachidonate and eicosapentaenoate as substrates (Golej et al. 2011).
