It is very similar or identical to PsuACR_353, a light-gated anion-selective channel from the marine cryptophyte algae, Proteomonas sulcata, with the highest transport rate for nitrate (NO3-) (Kikuchi et al. 2021). A Thr residue in the third TMS, which corresponds to Cys102 in GtACR1, contributes to the preference for NO3-.
