Stereocilin, STRC, of 1775 aas and one N-termnal TMS. STRC is essential to the formation of horizontal top connectors between outer hair cell stereocilia. It is an auditory receptor for cell stereocilium organization, is involved in cell to matrix adhesion as well as detection of mechanical stimuli for sensory perception of sound. AQP1 and STRC, and potentially TMEM255B, are serous (cystic) neoplasm (SCN) markers (Watase et al. 2021).  Moderate sensorineural hearing loss is typical for DFNB16 caused by various types of mutations affecting the STRC gene(Čada et al. 2019).
