Pentatricopeptide repeat-containing protein OGR1, mitochondrial, of 587 aas and 2 or more TMSs.  It is involved in multiple site RNA editing events in mitochondria, and is essential for C-to-U RNA editing at seven specific sites of nad2, nad4, cox2, cox3 and ccmC transcripts, all coding for proteins involved in the mitochondrial electron transport chain coupled to ATP generation. It is required for normal growth and development (Kim et al. 2009).  Functional expression of the proton sensors ASIC1a, TMEM206, and OGR1 together with BKCa channels is associated with cell volume changes and cell death (Pissas et al. 2024).
