9.B.66 The Propionicin PLG-1 (Propionicin PLC-1) Family

Propionicin PLG-1 is a bacteriocin produced by Propionibacterium thoenii P127. This  bacteriocin inhibits wide range of food-borne pathogens such as Escherichia coli, Pseudomonas aeruginosa, Vibrio parahaemolyticus, Yersinia enterocolitica, Listeria monocytogenes and a strain of Corynebacterium sp. The plg-1 gene expressing propionicin PLG-1 was transformed into various lactic acid bacteria and showed antimicrobial activity against the pathogens cited above.  It can therefore be used in probiotic bacteria to combat pathogens (Mohamed and Tahoun 2015).
